PRODUCTS FOR PARQUET

Here we are at the usual appointment in which we are used to tell you stories, experiences, comments on our life, and on beautiful things that surround us, we will also briefly get into the topic that interests you the most: that of products for parquet.
With your permission, this time we would like to tell you a story that has ancient roots and yet is always relevant.
In Italy there is a saying that is often used in a derogatory sence: “To put under the feet”. In this case, what we literally have “under our feet” is something far from humble and despised: we are speaking of the Parquet.
Humans have realized rather soon that wood could be one of our best allies due to its qualities: its great thermal insulating capability, that keeps the environment cool in the summertime and warm in winter. The numerous examples of medieval and even Roman parquet that we have inherited, bear witness to this. In the Neolithic, four thousand years before Christ, our ancestors used to cover the floors of their homes with just rough pieces of wood and, in the Nordic countries, the houses built entirely of wood were kept raised above the ground with beams to prevent humidity from attacking its fibers. Around 3000 BC, the Egyptians and the Vikings built the first decks to protect against frost and insects.
Shortly before the year 1000, most of the cold climate countries adopted the wood as flooring material, and the predominantly used species were the ones easily available in those places: fir, larch, pine tree.
We then discover that in the 12th – 13th century, in northern France they used wooden floors made from oak and olive.

PRODUCTS FOR PARQUET

PRODUCTS FOR PARQUET The fashion of combining tables of different colors and woods established itself in the Middle Ages, to continue throughout the Gothic period and in the early years of the Renaissance.

PRODUCTS FOR PARQUET The paintings by Flemish painters bear witness to the enduring popularity of parquet among the Nordic populations: there is no interior scene in which the wooden floor, shiny as a mirror, does not appear in all its splendour.

We arrive at 1534, the year in which the first “parquet”, seems to have been laid at the court of King Francis I, on the recommendation of the architect Jules Menard.
And again, in France we find the first wooden floors in different essences (walnut, cherry, beech) and in various designs. The palace of Versailles is one of the most majestic and famous examples of Baroque royal palaces, and in its immense halls you can admire complex and elegant examples of "border and field" and "mosaic" laying: in the first style, a perimeter band runs around the central part of the floor, which can also be in contrasting wood; in the second, strips of equal length and width are placed side by side to form squares which become the unit of measurement for the entire floor.

Even in the rest of Europe, in the palaces of the nobles and in the castles, the first parquets began to appear in various shapes and designs. At the end of the seventeenth century, parquet became a fashion, so much so that it was used in numerous luxury homes, mainly exploiting European woods (oak, maple, walnut, chestnut and cherry).
It is in the twentieth century that parquet floors with planks and boards spread by interlocking, often on sand substrates, thanks to the male-female conjunctions; often, new parquet is installed directly on existing floors.

A linguistic curiosity:
The word "parquet", used in France but also in other European countries, has changed its meaning over time in a rather unique way. Originally "parquet" was the diminutive of "parc", park. Over time this word began to identify a well-defined space, the place where sessions and conferences were held, in particular the room where Louis XIV held his meetings was defined as Parquet. Since this place was always paved with wood, the word parquet began to be synonymous with wooden floor.
As you can see, the history of parquet is almost lost in the mists of time since it begins so far back as the Neolithic.

PRODUCTS FOR PARQUETWe know how precious wood is. Even more precious to us is the one that acts as a real architectural element, as parquet is in the houses that are lucky enough to have it.
Now, leaving aside the lucky ones who own a castle or a patrician villa and have ancient parquet, BORMA WACHS can help those who have parquet installed in a modern apartment to feel like the Sun King.

PRODUCTS FOR PARQUETHow can we achieve that?
Through treatment with a special product that transforms your modern parquet into an antiqued one and finishing it with such rich materials that can be on a par with the skilled parquetmakers of the Sun King.

A journey into the luxury of parquet

PRODUCTS FOR PARQUET And now if you allow, let's take a little journey into the luxury of parquet. That is, where parquet is an essential element of a luxurious environment.
We have no other choice than to start with one of the most famous resorts in Italy, if not in the world. A resort that boasts, among other things, a multi-starred restaurant, led by a real star of the Italian gastronomic firmament: VILLA CRESPI in Orta San Giulio.
Can you imagine this master suite with a ceramic floor? Certainly not! Because here the parquet is elegance and luxury, as much as the sumptuous canopy bed!
If we add to this the panorama that can be enjoyed from the window, heaven is served.

PRODUCTS FOR PARQUET We leave the splendid Lake Orta and with a leap that only cyberspace can allow us, we go to Florence.
This is one of the halls of the Hotel Villa Cora. One of the jewels of Italian hospitality. Anyone expecting to find marble would (fortunately!) be disappointed. Here as well parquet is triumphant!
The same parquet that we find in the rooms and suites of this patrician house, built at the end of the 19th century and which, after a skillful restoration, has been a luxury hotel since 2010 just outside the historic center of the capital of the Italian Renaissance.

PRODUCTS FOR PARQUET Let's go now to the "official" capital of Italy and here is another example of a building converted into a Grand Hotel: ALDROVANDI PALACE. The late 19th-century Umbertine palace where a convent previously existed, is today one of the most sought-after and coveted addresses in Rome.
Here too, we find a profusion of parquet in all its refined environments.

PRODUCTS FOR PARQUET Let's go to Naples, and its most beautiful hotel. For the location, overlooking the seafront and overlooking the Maschio Angoino and for its refined furnishings.
This is a "standard room"! If you want sybaritic images, go see suites and salons. Parquet? Ca va sans dire!

PRODUCTS FOR PARQUET And finally, we are in Taormina! The pearl of Sicily and one of the most fascinating places in the world. The address? TIMEO hotel. The first hotel built in Taormina and has always been considered one of the most fascinating in Italy. Here one of its Suites, with a breathtaking view of the blue sea of its coast.

BORMA WACHS is here!
Well, going back to the "technical" part of our journey, all this parquet needs products that keep its beauty unchanged over time, despite the stress they are subjected to on a daily basis.
