For the preparation of rabbit skin glue it is necessary to be equipped with the Gilder's Pot, or with any container suitable for bain-marie cooking. Put 100 gr. of rabbit skin glue in the pot, adding 1 Lt. of water. The correct dilution in volume is 1 part of glue and 15 parts of water.
Let it work for 12 hours, allowing the glue to absorb water. Proceed then with the cooking phase warming the pot at bain-marie on an electric heater, until the glue is completely dissolved in water. The temperature during this phase must not exceed 50-60 °C, otherwise the glue will lose its adhesive properties. The obtained mixture can be used for different applications, as for the preparation of the basecoat in the traditional "a guazzo" gilding technique.
